Fudochi: Fudochi is the ideal Zen empty mind, perfectly controlled yet totally liberated. Quote from the sword teacher Takuan: “Fudo <immovable> does not mean the immobility of a stone or a tree. The mind which moves over there, to the left, to the right, in the ten directions and in the eight directions, but does not tarry anywhere for a second, has fudochi . . .”

There are several kendo schools in the Houston, Texas area.  Each and every kendo school has a different philosophy and regimen of teaching.  Every interested student is encourage to carefully consider the school before committing for the length of time to really figure out if kendo is something you could do for the rest of your life.  If you are not willing to visit a school and sit through an entire class, then kendo is not for you.  If a student does not think through things such as drive-time, class schedules, consistency, the expense of kendo equipment, and ultimately the embarrassment and occasional ego-tempering humiliation of having absolutely underestimated the simplicity of kendo – then the student is doomed to failure.  Kendo is not for them.

The Houston Kendo Dojo is located 9850 Drysdale, Houston, Texas 77041. This is in Northwest Houston, near Gessner and Highway 290.
